High School Roundup: Huntington Beach, Costa Mesa exit in CIF girls’ basketball quarterfinals
Bella Serrano led the Huntington Beach High girls’ basketball team with 13 points in a 37-36 loss to No. 4-seeded Eastvale Roosevelt in Wednesday night’s CIF Southern Section Division 2AA quarterfinal playoff game at home.
Meghan McIntyre and Alyssa Real each chipped in with eight points for the Surf League champion Oilers (23-7).
Jaachi Nwanevu had 20 points to lead the Mustangs (26-4). Ugonne Onyiah added 10 points, including the go-ahead free throw in the final seconds.
Montclair 41, Costa Mesa 31: Katie Belmontes had 19 points to lead the visiting Mustangs in a CIF Southern Section Division 5AA quarterfinal playoff game on Wednesday.
Amy Martinez and McKayla Ortiz each added six points for Costa Mesa (16-13), which shared the Orange Coast League title with Santa Ana.
Mustangs coach Samantha Doucette said that sophomore power forward Tarah Harmon missed the game with the flu.
