High School Roundup: Albers hits game-winner

Costa Mesa 49, Saddleback 48

SANTA ANA – Senior Andrew Albers scored in the paint with a buzzer-beating shot to lead the Mustangs to the Orange Coast League win Friday.

Albers, who had 14 points, 11 rebounds and seven blocks, scored off an inbounds play.

Jordan Walden led Costa Mesa (10-12, 4-2 in league) with 20 points, including six three-pointers.

Matt Dimson connected on two big three-pointers late in the game, helping the Mustangs overcome a five-point deficit. Saddleback answered with a bucket to go up, 48-47, before Albers’ game-winner.

The Mustangs will play host to Godinez Wednesday at 7 p.m.

COSTA MESA — Davon Joyner had 19 points, six rebounds and five steals to lead the Eagles in the Orange Coast League game Friday.

Ray Holmes added 16 points for Estancia (14-9, 5-1 in league), which plays at Laguna Beach Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Marina 68, Newport Harbor 54

NEWPORT BEACH — Senior guard Carter Fortier scored a team-high 17 points for the Sailors in the Sunset League game Friday night at Newport Harbor High.

Craig McKennon added 16 points for the Sailors (8-13, 0-6 in league), who play at Los Alamitos on Wednesday.

Corona del Mar 4, Irvine 0

CORONA DEL MAR — Mason Case recorded a hat trick for the Sea Kings in the Pacific Coast League match Friday.

Reed Wolonsky scored a goal, while Grady Howe and Kjell Wolker had an assist each for CdM (12-1-6, 5-1-1 in league), ranked No. 4 in CIF Southern Section Division III.

Goalie Connor Gaal had 5 saves, posting his eighth shutout of the season.

The Sea Kings will play at Woodbridge Wednesday at 3:15 p.m.

Sage Hill 4, Whitney 0

CERRITOS — Noosha Deravi had a goal and an assist for the Lightning in the Academy League match Friday.

Alli Mowrey, Maddie Culberson and Meg Grade scored a goal each, while Campbell Moore also had an assist for Sage Hill (9-7-1, 4-2 in league).

Goalie Paige Krueger had five saves for her fourth shutout of the season.

The Lightning play host to Crean Lutheran South Tuesday at 3:15 p.m.
