AT THE PLATE: Leadoff man Kole Calhoun had three singles and three runs batted in. David Freese hit a double to right-center and singled off the right-field wall. C.J. Cron and Collin Cowgill doubled. Marc Krauss singled twice during a six-run, six-hit sixth inning, which was highlighted by Mike Trout’s three-run homer.

ON THE MOUND: Right-hander Drew Rucinski, filling in for C.J. Wilson, who was sick, retired 12 batters, five by strikeout, to open the game. He walked Carlos Gonzalez to open the fifth and was pulled. “I blew it,” Rucinski, who had reached his pitch limit, said with a grin. “I didn’t get ahead of that guy like I was supposed to.” Rucinski threw first-pitch strikes to 11 of 13 batters. “He just pounded the zone and had really good out pitches,” Manager Mike Scioscia said. Cam Bedrosian gave up one hit and struck out three in two scoreless innings.
