Marlins use four home runs to defeat Dodgers, 6-2

The Miami Marlins used four home runs to defeat the Dodgers, 6-2, at Dodger Stadium on Sunday to salvage one game in the three-game series.

Miami’s home runs included a two-run shot by Rob Brantly — his first big league home run — in the fifth inning against starter Aaron Harang.

Giancarlo Stanton hit a home run in the fourth inning and Jose Reyes and Carlos Lee hit consecutive home runs in the ninth inning against Shawn Tolleson.

The loss dropped the Dodgers 2 1/2 games behind the first-place San Francisco Giants, who were playing later Sunday, in the National League West.

Adrian Gonzalez and Nick Punto, two of the four players who came to the Dodgers from the Boston Red Sox on Saturday in the teams’ blockbuster trade, combined for the Dodgers’ first run in the first inning.

After Punto walked and moved to second base on Matt Kemp’s single, Gonzalez singled to drive in Punto, who started the game at second base.

Andre Ethier’s streak of hitting safely in consecutive at-bats ended at 10 when he took a called third strike in the first inning. When he got the 10th hit Saturday, it set a Los Angeles Dodgers record.

But in the seventh inning, Ethier singled home Kemp from third base.

Gonzalez batted with the bases loaded and two out in the eighth inning and hit a long flyout to right fielder Stanton.

Marlins starter Mark Buehrle held the Dodgers to one run in 5 1/3 innings.
