The Chargers placed right tackle Bryan Bulaga on injured reserve Friday and also ruled out defensive back Chris Harris Jr. for Sunday against Dallas.

Bulaga was unable to practice this week after missing the second half of the team’s season opener at Washington because of a back injury.

Harris, the most experienced member of the secondary and a versatile piece for the Chargers, played all but one defensive snap in Week 1. He is dealing with a shoulder injury.

Coach Brandon Staley said he doesn’t believe Harris’ situation is anything long term, adding, “We’re just being careful.”

Alohi Gilman, Trey Marshall and Kemon Hall are among the primary options to replace Harris, who can play both cornerback and safety. Tevaughn Campbell is another possibility.

Signed as a free agent in March 2020, Bulaga was limited to 38% of the Chargers’ offensive snaps last season because of injuries, including one to his back.

They were once messy college roommates at Ohio State, and now they will meet for the first time as pros as Ezekiel Elliott and the Cowboys visit Joey Bosa and the Chargers on Sunday.

The team monitored Bulaga’s participation throughout training camp in hopes of keeping him healthy. Staley said he doesn’t believe Bulaga’s injury is a long-term issue.

Storm Norton replaced Bulaga against Washington and will start Sunday when the Chargers play the Cowboys at SoFi Stadium.

Bulaga was signed a three-year deal that included $19.25 million in guaranteed money. None of his base salary is guaranteed beyond this season.

With Bulaga out, the Chargers re-signed veteran offensive lineman Michael Schofield III. He started 39 games (including the playoffs) for the Chargers from 2017-19. Schofield spent last season with Carolina.

Staley also said he expects safety Nasir Adderley to play against the Cowboys. Adderley was limited in practice Friday and is questionable for the game because of groin issue.

Defensive lineman Justin Jones (calf) is doubtful for Sunday.
