Stephen A. Smith will ‘address’ domestic violence comments Monday
Embattled ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith will be back on "First Take" Monday, at which time he will address comments he made on domestic violence, an ESPN spokesman told the Los Angeles Times.
Smith was heavily criticized Friday for comments he made which seemed to imply that some women are to blame when they become victims of domestic violence. Smith made the comments while discussing Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice's two-game suspension under the personal conduct policy. Rice was arrested after a February incident with his then-fiancee, which ended with her unconscious in an Atlantic City casino elevator.
“Let’s make sure we don’t do anything to provoke wrong actions,” Smith said Friday, apparently addressing women who might become victims of domestic violence. Smith said it is never OK for a man to put his hands on a woman to hurt her but added, “Let’s try to do our part in making sure that doesn’t happen,” he said, apparently to women.
Smith "will address" his comments on the show Monday, a spokesman told The Times.
