Clippers’ losing streak extends to three after 91-80 defeat by Toronto Raptors

The Clippers’ record slipped under .500 after they lost to the Toronto Raptors, 91-80, on Sunday afternoon at Staples Center. It was the Clippers’ (6-7) third loss in a row.

The Clippers received boos from their home crowd as they walked off the court at halftime, trailing the Raptors by 29 points. During those dreadful opening 24 minutes, they had as many turnovers (13) as field goals (13). In the half, Blake Griffin was scoreless and Chris Paul had two points.

The Raptors then lost their touch in the third quarter, shooting only 18.2% from the field as the Clippers outscored them, 21-8, to trim their deficit to 16 points entering the fourth.

The Clippers went on a 20-2 run extending from late in the third to midway through the fourth to cut the Raptors’ lead to six points, 73-67, after Wesley Johnson made a three-pointer with 7:30 left.

But that was the closest they came to the Raptors, who dealt the Clippers their seventh loss in their last nine games.

J.J. Redick led the Clippers with 17 points. Paul finished with 13 points and 11 assists. DeAndre Jordan had 13 points and 15 rebounds. Griffin had only nine points in 30 minutes. Paul Pierce, who started at small forward, had just two points.

DeMarre Carroll and DeMar DeRozan each had 21 points for the Raptors. Luis Scola finished with 20 points and eight rebounds. Bismack Biyombo added 14 rebounds.

The Raptors made 29 free throws, nearly twice as many as the Clippers’ 15. The Clippers finished with 20 turnovers off which the Raptors scored 17 points.

In addition to losing to the Raptors, the Clippers have also recently lost to the Golden State Warriors and the Portland Trail Blazers.

The Clippers next play the Nuggets in Denver on Tuesday.
