Watch Chris Paul get ejected after telling ref not to talk to him like a kid
Chris Paul was ejected from Tuesday’s, 130-95 win over Golden State after telling a referee not to speak to him as if he were a child.
Said Paul: “I’ve got two kids of my own. Don’t talk to me like a little kid.”
The referee responded by dealing Paul his second technical foul of the game, sending the Clippers’ superstar point guard to the locker room early with seven points and ten assists. (Here is a video of the incident.)
This was not the first time that Paul defended himself when he felt as though he were being patronized. At the end of a game in 2012 between the Clippers and the Lakers, Pau Gasol rubbed Paul’s head as Paul and Kobe Bryant exchanged trash talk.
Said Paul after that game: “Don’t touch the top of my head like I’m one of your kids.”
Clippers Coach Doc Rivers knows that Paul, and the rest of the Clippers, need to learn to keep their emotions at bay during games.
Against the Warriors on Tuesday, the Clippers finished with five technical fouls, a stat that Rivers said was the team’s one dark stain on an otherwise great performance.
“I didnt like that,” Rivers said. “That’s the only negative of the game.”
The Clippers had 57 technical fouls last season. To put that number in perspective -- the Spurs had had 50 technical fouls over the last five seasons.
