Clippers waive guard Desi Rodriguez, still have to more cuts to make
The Clippers made their first roster decision of the preseason Tuesday by waiving guard Desi Rodriguez hours before their fourth preseason game.
A rookie from Seton Hall who signed with the team two weeks before training camp opened, the 6-foot-6 Rodriguez played with the Clippers’ summer league team and averaged 9.3 minutes in two preseason games.
The move came less than a week before the Monday deadline for teams to trim their rosters to the maximum of 15. The Clippers currently have 17 players under contract and “probably know what we’re gonna do already,” coach Doc Rivers said Tuesday night at Staples Center before a game against the Denver Nuggets.
“I pretty much know, but there’s always a chance that someone can change your mind,” Rivers said. “... Some guys may have played well, but then overall when you’ve watched them in practice you may lean toward another guy because you just like what you think he can do someday. So that’s what we’ll evaluate.”
