Dodgers place Justin Turner on DL; Hanley Ramirez out with sore calf
The Dodgers placed infielder Justin Turner on the disabled list with a strained left hamstring Sunday and recalled Carlos Triunfel from triple-A Albuquerque.
Shortstop Hanley Ramirez also was out of the lineup in the series finale against the St. Louis Cardinals with his strained left calf, the Dodgers calling him the proverbial day-to-day case.
Ramirez told reporters after suffering the injury Saturday that it was his right calf. Dodgers Manager Don Mattingly assured the media Sunday it was the left.
“We’re sure,” Mattingly said. “I think he was messing with you.”
Also unclear was how long Ramirez will be out. Since it is his left, it’s the same calf that caused him to miss three games last month.
“I don’t know if it should be more of a concern now or not,” Mattingly said. “Just not having him out there for any reason is a concern.”
Ramirez had just returned to the lineup Saturday after missing four games with a sore shoulder.
The Dodgers seemed hopeful that Turner’s hamstring injury was not severe.
“We’re hopeful it’s not one of those two-month hammys and more between three weeks to a month type thing,” Mattingly said. “He came in actually decent today. It’s not one of those where you can’t walk at all.”
Triunfel is making his third stop with the Dodgers this season. He’s appeared in seven games, going two for seven. He had just been sent down Thursday when the Dodgers activated Juan Uribe.
Injured on the same play as Turner was third-base coach Lorenzo Bundy. He had retreated down the line to waive Andre Ethier home and then tried to explode back to the third-base box to get Turner to third when his calf exploded. He was walking with a noticeable limp Sunday.
