Dodgers call up Stephen Fife to start Sunday vs. Marlins
With left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu put on the disabled list, the Dodgers are in need of a starting pitcher for Sunday in Miami. Options are not plentiful.
Manager Don Mattingly would not confirm who it would be even pregame Saturday, but afterward their mystery starter was finally announced.
Welcome back, Stephen Fife.
After the Dodgers’ 9-7 victory Saturday, Mattingly confirmed to reporters in Miami that Fife was being called up from triple-A Albuquerque and the Dodgers were sending Jose Dominguez back down.
Fife was 4-4 with a 3.86 earned-run average in 12 appearances (10 starts) for the Dodgers last year, but has been struggling for Albuquerque this season.
In six games, he is 1-2 with a 7.08 ERA, but two of his last three appearances were out of the bullpen. He did, however, throw six scoreless innings in his last start, April 26.
