Dodgers come up short in 3-2 loss to Phillies
KEY MOMENT: With one out in the 10th inning, Phillies catcher Carlos Ruiz popped up to shallow left field. Left fielder Carl Crawford and shortstop Hanley Ramirez failed to communicate, resulting in a drop by Crawford. Ruiz reached second base on the error and scored the deciding run on Dominic Brown’s double off left-hander J.P. Howell.

ON THE MOUND: Hyun-Jin Ryu pitched six innings, after which the Dodgers trailed, 2-1. Ryu and the Dodgers fell behind, 2-0, in the fifth inning as Marlon Byrd doubled in a run and Ryan Howard drove in Ben Revere with a sacrifice fly. The runs ended a scoreless streak of 18 innings for Ryu, who was last charged with a run in the Dodgers’ home opener on April 4.
AT THE PLATE: The Dodgers reduced their deficit to 2-1 in the fifth inning, when slumping catcher Tim Federowicz doubled, advanced to third base on a sacrifice bunt by Ryu and scored on a sacrifice fly by Crawford. The score was tied in the seventh inning, as Dee Gordon doubled and stole third base. Gordon scored on a two-out, pinch-hit single by Justin Turner. The stolen base was the 11th for Gordon, who leads the majors.
ON THE MEND: Clayton Kershaw threw a bullpen session, which kept him in line to pitch Friday in a minor league game.
MISCELLANEOUS: Phillies pitcher A.J. Burnett had a career-high three hits.
