Dodgers minor leaguer Angel Guzman suspended 2nd time for drugs
Into baseball’s landscape of dumb and dumber, you now have to add right-hander Angel Guzman.
Maybe the name is not sending off alarms of recognition, nor should it really. Guzman was a Dodgers’ non-roster invite to spring training this spring. He appeared in five games and pitched well. He did not allow a run in 5 1/3 innings, with one hit and walk and two strikeouts.
He did not make the club, and going way out on a limb here, I’m thinking he won’t be anytime soon.
At least not for the next 50 games, since that was the suspension issued to him Friday by Major League Baseball for his second violation for a drug of abuse. That would be the kind that doesn’t make you stronger, but feel better.
News break just for Guzman: They’re testing for drugs in the minors. Of course, if you didn’t figure that out the first time ...
Guzman is no kid. He’s 30 and this is his 13th season bouncing round, the last 12 in the Cubs’ organization.
It’s possible the Dodgers knew this suspension was coming for awhile, since Guzman remains at extended spring training in Phoenix and has yet to pitch in a minor-league game.
