Dodgers lose Javy Guerra and Seth Rosin on waiver claims

All that bullpen depth, and you would have thought the Dodgers would get something for their overflow.

But it was nothing doing, and on Wednesday they lost both Javy Guerra and Seth Rosin to waiver claims.

Guerra, their ex-closer who saved 21 games in 2011, could never duplicate that late-season surge. He lost his role early the next season and spent most of 2013 in the minors. He flat-lined enough that it seems no team was willing to dangle anything for him in trade, so the Chicago White Sox claimed him.

Dennis Gilbert, special assistant to White Sox Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf, watches most every game at Dodger Stadium directly behind homeplate. The White Sox already have former Dodger reliever Ronald Belisario.

Rosin is the Rule 5 draft pick who performed well this spring (1.64 earned-run average, 1.09 WHIP, 12 strikeouts in 11 innings), but he needed to be exceptional to make a team with possibly the deepest bullpen in baseball (second game in Australia notwithstanding).

Rosin was claimed by the Texas Rangers, who will now have to keep him on their roster all season or offer him back to the Phillies.

The Dodgers probably will need to send down two additional relievers (Chris Withrow, Jose Dominguez) before returning to the regular season Sunday in San Diego.
