Josh Lindblom traded by Phillies to Rangers for Michael Young

Lindblom, the hard-throwing and well-liked right-handed reliever, is packing again.

Traded by the Dodgers to the Phillies for Shane Victorino at the July 31 trading deadline, Lindblom was moved again Saturday.

The Phillies traded him to the Texas Rangers for Michael Young, whom they plan to play at third base. Hmm, who else do we know who could use a third baseman?

The Phillies wanted Lindblom as a set-up man, but he had mixed results (4.63 earned-run average, 1.54 WHIP in 26 games) in Philadelphia.

Young, who’s from Bishop Amat High in La Puente, has been at odds with the Rangers since they moved him from shortstop to third in 2009, then from third to designated hitter when the team acquired Adrian Beltre the next off-season.

He’s 36 now and seemingly headed in the wrong direction. He hit .277 last season, easily his lowest average in the last 10 years, and had a career-low nine home runs. The Rangers are reportedly sending the Phillies more than $10 million in the deal to help with the $16 million Young will earn next season.

Lindblom was a 2008 second-round draft pick of the Dodgers out of Purdue. Right now, at least, he seems better positioned to capture a World Series with the Rangers than Phillies. Particularly if they sign this right-handed starter they’ve been talking about.
