Prep football bowl games this weekend
CIF regional bowl games
Friday
Division I
Fresno Edison (12-1) at Oceanside (13-0), 7:30 p.m.
Oceanside is the best of a record three San Diego Section teams selected for bowl games. Matthew Romero has passed for 2,672 yards and 24 touchdowns. Edison comes in with an impressive resume of wins against strong opponents. The pick: Oceanside.
Division IV
San Juan Capistrano St. Margaret’s (14-0) vs. El Cajon Christian (13-0) at El Cajon Granite Hills, 7:30 p.m.
Last year, Christian went to court trying to get into a bowl game and failed. This time, Christian made it based on an unbeaten record featuring junior quarterback David Todd Jeremiah, who has 2,670 yards passing and 31 touchdowns. St. Margaret’s has a versatile standout in Nick Shanks. The pick: St. Margaret’s.
Saturday
Division II
Bakersfield Ridgeview (12-1) vs. Redlands East Valley (13-1) at Citrus Valley, 7:30 p.m.
Redlands East Valley must stop Ridgeview’s running game, led by Sheldon Croney, who has rushed for nearly 2,000 yards and 27 touchdowns. Redlands East Valley sophomore quarterback Armando Herrera has passed for 3,278 yards and 39 touchdowns. The pick: Redlands East Valley.
Division III
Paso Robles (13-1) at Lakeside El Capitan (13-0), 7:30 p.m.
This could be a defensive slugfest. Paso Robles relies on running back Bailey Gaither, who gained 206 yards in last week’s Northern Division final. El Capitan quarterback Brad Cagel has passed for more than 7,000 yards and 73 touchdowns in his prep career. The pick: El Capitan.
