Baseball: Alvarez twins lead Eagle Rock to City Section Division II title
Alvarez twins lead Eagle Rock past Franklin, 10-6
Twin brothers Andrew and Jacob Alvarez did everything but carry the water bottles in leading Eagle Rock to its first City Section baseball championship in school history.
Andrew struck out nine, threw a complete game and had two hits while Jacob had a single, double and three RBIs in Eagle Rock’s 10-6 victory over Franklin on Saturday in the Division II championship game at Dodger Stadium.
The seniors are three-sport standouts who caught fire during the playoffs. Jacob threw a one-hitter in the semifinals. Andrew will probably hear plenty at the dinner table how Jacob threw better, but together, they are one heck of a brother duo.
“To do this is a dream come true,” Jacob said. “It’s something we’ll always remember.”
Eagle Rock lost twice to Franklin in the Northern League, but the Eagles pulled way with a five-run fourth inning that included three runs on bases loaded walks. Jacob added a two-run single. Adam Fawal contributed two hits to Eagle Rock’s attack.
David Telles and Ceasar Celis had two hits each for Franklin.
