Baseball: Junior pitcher Colin Townsend comes through for JSerra in win over Orange Lutheran
The pressure was on junior pitcher Colin Townsend of JSerra on Tuesday night. He was facing No. 1-ranked Orange Lutheran in the first game of a three-game Trinity League series, and Townsend came through with a clutch performance.
He struck out five, walked two and scattered seven hits in a complete game to lift the Lions past Orange Lutheran, 5-2, at Hart Park. JSerra improved to 6-2 in league while Orange Lutheran dropped to 5-2.
Lyle Lin had two hits and two RBIs. Micah Pries added two hits.
Townsend gave up two singles to start the bottom of the seventh, but Coach Brett Kay decided to stay with him, and he responded with strikeout, strikeout and pop out to end the game. It was the 200th coaching victory for Kay.
The two teams play again on Wednesday at JSerra.
