Baseball: Keston Hiura leads Valencia victory
Valencia (11-7, 5-2) has moved into a tie for second place in the Foothill League with Saugus after completing a sweep of West Ranch on Friday with a 4-2 victory. Keston Hiura had three hits, including a home run. Andrew Hodges threw 4 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.
Saugus (11-5, 5-2) defeated Golden Valley, 6-2. Eric Little (5-1) allowed five hits in five innings. Hart (15-2-1, 6-1) remained one game ahead of Saugus and Valencia after a 7-2 win over Canyon. Dayton Provost hit a home run. Pearson Good, Wes Fitzpatrick and Nick Valaika all hit doubles.
In the Baseline League, Glendora (13-5, 6-1) defeated Etiwanda, 7-4. Eric Flores threw four innings. Justin Cage had two hits and two RBIs
In the Pacific League, Crescenta Valley defeated Hoover, 6-0. Three pitchers combined on the shutout. Michael Russo had two hits. Pasadena defeated Burroughs, 1-0, in eight innings. Frankie Garriola threw the complete game, striking out nine and walking none. Cole Meyer of Burroughs allowed no hits for 7 2/3 innings.
In the Sierra League, South Hills defeated Chino Hills, 1-0. Quinn Cotter had three hits and Gavin Velasquez threw a six-hitter. Ayala defeated Claremont, 5-4, in eight innings. Bryan Roe had two doubles. Matthew Acosta drove in the winning run.
In the Bay League, Peninsula scored six runs in the top of the 10th inning to defeat Palos Verdes, 6-0.
James Allen had two doubles in Cypress’ 8-6 win over Long Beach Poly.
