Boys’ basketball: Birmingham can be West Valley League title contender
Thanks to a group of talented newcomers, Birmingham could offer competition to Taft and El Camino Real in the West Valley League basketball race this season.
Leading the way is Deschon Winston, a point guard transfer from El Camino Real, and Devante Dourtive, a 6-foot-5 junior transfer from Alaska. Seth Texeria, a junior guard from Chatsworth, is a good shooter. More help should be provided by 6-7 Kobe Johnson, moving up from JVs.
Returning is 6-4 all-leaguer Mark Boland, a junior, 6-5 junior Josh Abrams and 6-4 senior Adrian Byrd-Jelinek.
