Boys’ basketball: Calabasas hands Westlake its first league defeat
Calabasas pulled into a first-place tie with Westlake in the Marmonte League on Friday night after a 59-52 home victory over the Warriors.
Former Westlake player Larry Bush had 19 points, Austin Smith 12 and Jeremy Lieberman 11. Marcos Soto had 22 points for Westlake. Both schools are 9-1 in league. Thousand Oaks defeated Royal, 62-42. Tyler Cartaino had 19 points in Newbury Park’s 57-51 win over Agoura.
In the Nike Extravaganza, Mater Dei defeated Village Christian, 79-60. Stanley Johnson finished with 34 points. Santa Margarita defeated Bullard, 60-54.
In the Mission League, Harvard-Westlake defeated Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, 66-60, to give Coach Greg Hilliard his 600th career victory. Derick Newton had 22 points and Alex Copeland 20. Ryan Ducar scored 21 points for Notre Dame. Crespi defeated Alemany, 57-45. DJ Ursery scored 15 points. Parker Jackson-Cartwright had 16 points and Thomas Welsh 15 points and 18 rebounds in Loyola’s 54-41 win over Chaminade.
In the Baseline League, Etiwanda defeated Los Osos, 58-55. Kameron Edwards had 19 points. Rancho Cucamonga defeated Upland, 85-72. Blake Fisher finished with 17 points and Daylan Lawrence 13.
In the Sierra League, Chino Hills received 22 points from freshman LiAngelo Ball in a 90-50 win over South Hills. Damien defeated Charter Oak, 66-34.
In the Bay League, Redondo defeated Peninsula, 55-44. Ian Fox had 14 points and Ryse Williams 12. In the Ocean League, sophomore Jonah Mathews scored 27 points in Santa Monica’s 58-48 win over Inglewood.
In the Tri-Valley League, Oaks Christian defeated Malibu, 80-50. Jordan Flannery had 18 points. In the Olympic League, Maranatha defeated Vallley Christian, 67-49. Tey Williams scored 16 points.
In the Pacific League, Glendale upset Burroughs, 53-45. Pasadena defeated Hoover, 63-59, with Ajon Efferson scoring 19 points.
In the Foothill League, Hart received 26 points from Lewis Stallworth and 20 from Myles Franklin in an 83-43 win over West Ranch.
In the Moore League, Long Beach Jordan came close but fell to Long Beach Poly, 71-70, despite 26 points from Sean Guillory. Kameron Murrell had 20 points for Poly.
In the City Section, View Park rallied for a 64-60 Coliseum League victory over Crenshaw. Chance Comanche had 14 points and 17 rebounds. Luis Medearis had 12 points and a key basket late.
In the Valley Mission League, Sylmar defeated Kennedy, 90-58. Devenir Duruisseau had 36 points, 12 rebounds and eight blocks.
In the West Valley League, Chris Sandifer scored 27 points in Taft’s 68-45 win over Birmingham. El Camino Real defeated Chatsworth, 52-43. Evan Wardlow had 13 points.
In the Western League, Fairfax defeated Palisades, 66-51. Lorne Currie had 15 points and Lindsey Drew added 12 points and six assists. Aaron Johnson led Palisades with 17 points. University defeated LACES, 66-51. C.J. Sinada scored 22 points. Hamilton defeated Venice, 90-88.
In the East Valley League, Grant defeated North Hollywood, 70-55. Daleshaun Jackson led Grant with 26 points. Verdugo Hills defeated Chavez, 59-43. Jordan Cooper had 13 points and Adrian Gutierrez and Erick Esparza added 12 apiece. Poly defeated Arleta, 59-54. Cesar Reyes had 13 points.
In the Eastern League, Garfield defeated Roosevelt, 61-54. Jonathan Hernandez had 29 points for Roosevelt. South Gate defeated South East, 71-42. Joshua Conde had 20 points.
