Boys’ basketball: Joe’l Towers lifts Bernstein into City Section Division II championship game
A year after leading Bernstein to the City Section Division III championship, 5-foot-10 senior guard Joe’l Towers is at it again. He has Bernstein (26-5) playing for the City Division II title on Friday at 8 p.m. against Venice at Roybal.
“That’s my guy,” Coach Phil Rodgers said. “He’s been the backbone of our team.”
Towers, who arrived from L.A. Price last season, is averaging 19 points.
“He’s been efficient,” Rodgers said. “We were disappointed he didn’t get player of the year last season. He’s a really good shooter.”
Towers had 21 points on Saturday night in a semifinal victory over Eagle Rock.
