Boys’ basketball: The silliness of national polls in prep sports
So Santa Ana Mater Dei (22-3) beats Fairfax (25-1), 47-34, on Saturday night and isn’t ranked in the top 25 of the MaxPreps Xcellent 25 basketball rankings?
Welcome to the silliness of national polls for prep sports.
I hope fans and readers understand these polls are just done to create interest and debate and aren’t really anything more than the opinion of people who can’t see every team and try to do their best to provide a snapshot of top teams.
Oak Hill (38-0) played in the same tournament on Saturday as Mater Dei and Fairfax and is ranked No. 1. Fairfax is No. 7, Sierra Canyon No. 9 and Bishop O’Dowd No. 19 and Bishop Montgomery No. 23.
Enjoy the debate, but this is the reason I pay very little attention to national rankings.
