Boys’ basketball: Westchester is expecting contributions from freshman guard Jordan Brinson
Ed Azzam, the veteran basketball coach from Westchester, makes it clear about using freshmen on varsity.
“I don’t like playing freshmen, but this one is an A student and has some good instincts on how to play,” he said.
Azzam is referring to 6-foot freshman guard Jordan Brinson, who will get a chance to contribute for the Comets, expected to be a challenger to defending City Section Division I champion Fairfax.
Westchester’s top player will be 6-foot-7 senior Keith Fisher, along with senior guard Evan Council. But guard play will be critical to do well in the City playoffs, with Fairfax and Dorsey strong at the position.
“He’s got some skills and talent,” Azzam said of Brinson, who will have to compete for playing time with several varsity returnees and players moving up from junior varsity.
