Football: Michael Pittman leads Oaks Christian to 35-33 victory
USC-bound receiver Michael Pittman caught 12 passes for 251 yards and two touchdowns to help Oaks Christian hold off San Diego Cathedral Catholic, 35-33, in an Honor Bowl game Saturday afternoon at Oceanside High.
Oaks Christian (2-0) had a 35-7 lead with just over seven minutes left in the third quarter. Then Cathedral mounted an impressive comeback, culminating in a two-yard touchdown run by Hogan Irwin with 23 seconds left that cut the Lions’ lead to two points.
The Dons went for a two-point conversion trying to tie the game, but quarterback Tate Haynes’ pass was incomplete in the end zone.
Oaks Christian quarterback Matt Corral completed 19 of 24 passes for 419 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran for a touchdown. Pittman had a sack in the fourth quarter but also lost the ball on a fumble to set up Cathedral’s final score. Lee Pitts had an interception.
Colby Parkinson had a 76-yard touchdown reception and caught a 59-yard pass for the Lions, who face Venice next week.
