Football: New bowl format is passed at CIF meeting
A new bowl format will begin this fall in the CIF for football.
By a vote of 71-64, the CIF state Federated Council approved the measure on Friday.
It means all 51 section champions from around the state will be invited to play in regional bowl games. This past year, only 18 participated. It means all three City Section champions from Division I, II and III will play in bowl games.
The Southern Section, the largest section in the state, opposed the measure.
There will be 13 divisions matched by competitive equity and the championship games will be played throughout the state.
