Football: South Gate makes progress after opening defeat
South Gate receiver lost his father and mother, but remains determined to succeed.
South Gate was supposed to be a prime challenger to Garfield in the Eastern League. Then the Rams were upset in their season opener to Westchester, 38-22, which might have caused a little panic among their fans.
You can relax. The Rams are back, just like the Rams in the NFL.
Their 22-6 victory on Friday night over previously unbeaten San Fernando was South Gate’s third consecutive win.
Leonard Jackson caught seven passes for 85 yards and two touchdowns. Jamaal Neal had a touchdown. Victor Rios recorded 11 tackles on defense.
The Rams made lots of turnovers in their opener and have been taking better care of the football.
But there’s no time to relax. South Gate faces a tough challenge from Salesian on Friday at South Gate. Salesian QB Robbie Blosser had nine TD passes against Huntington Park.
