The cup runneth over when it comes to football talent at Bellflower St. John Bosco, which won the 16-team Edison passing tournament on Saturday, defeating Santa Ana Mater Dei in the final.

It was probably the best field in the 15-year history of the Edison tournament, which is another indication of how much talent St. John Bosco has entering the 2013 season.

The Braves’ strength should be their offensive and defensive lines, and yet it was the skill-position players putting on a show, from quarterback Josh Rosen to receiver Shay Fields to defensive backs Jaleel Wadood and Naijiel Hale.

Westlake and Sherman Oaks Notre Dame also reached the semifinals. Mater Dei was successful even though it lost its No. 1 player, Jonathan Lockett, to an injury for the afternoon sesssion.

Among the standouts on Saturday:

JSerra cornerback Dante Pettis was earning rave reviews for the way he was covering receivers.

Notre Dame receiver Daniel Khan and Santa Margarita receiver Kyle Sweet had productive days.
