Football: Sylmar is on a scoring rampage
Having scored 70 and 68 points in its last two football playoff victories, Sylmar is entering the City Section Division II championship game as a formidable opponent for top-seeded Hamilton. The game will be played at 4 p.m. next Saturday at the Coliseum.
Junior quarterback Clarence Williams passed for nearly 400 yards and five touchdowns in a 70-28 win over No. 2-seeded Eagle Rock.
But, as good as Sylmar has looked, the Spartans still will be the underdog to a Hamilton team that routed South Gate, 42-23, in the semifinals. South Gate’s only loss on the field had been to Garfield.
The quarterbacks will be the players to watch. Both are multiple-sport athletes. Williams also plays basketball. Hamilton’s Armani Rogers, who’s a 6-foot-6 junior, also is pretty good in baseball.
