Football: Three teams in running for Eastern League championship
It’s pretty clear that South East (5-0), Roosevelt (4-0) and Garfield (2-3) are the teams to beat in the Eastern League, and their games coming up will help determine the league champion.
South East, under first-year Coach Greg Dixon, continues to rely on the versatile Daniel Belton, a running back-middle linebacker. He’s averaging more than 10 tackles a game. He also has rushing performances of 180 yards against Taft and 113 yards against Lawndale.
Roosevelt is relying on quarterback David Arriaga’s running and passing. Garfield has turned to running back Ty’Jon Delancy, who has rushed for 621 yards and 12 touchdowns.
South East plays Garfield on Oct. 11 and takes on Roosevelt on Oct. 18. Roosevelt plays Garfield on Nov. 1.
