Girls’ basketball: Freshman Charisma Osborne scores 33 points in Windward victory
L.A. Windward, the school that sent Jordin Canada to UCLA, has another rising young girls’ basketball standout in freshman Charisma Osborne.
She scored 33 points, including six threes, and had 10 rebounds to help Windward hold off Vista Murrieta, 74-72, in a quarterfinal game of the Southern Section Open Division girls’ basketball playoffs on Wednesday night. Jayde Woods added 13 points and 10 assists.
Windward will play at No. 1-seeded Long Beach Poly on Saturday. Poly defeated Troy, 56-52.
Sierra Canyon advanced to the semifinals with a 55-48 upset of No. 2-seeded Brea Olinda. Alexis Griggsby scored 20 points. Reili Richardson had 26 points for Brea.
Sierra Canyon will host No. 3-seeded Chaminade on Saturday night.
Chaminade defeated Etiwanda, 82-54. Valerie Higgins scored 31 points and Leaonna Odom added 20 points.
