Girls’ basketball: Windward freshman Chelsey Gipson gets 15 points at Palisades tourney
L.A. Windward, already loaded with top girls’ basketball players, unveiled another good one on Monday in the Palisades tournament, getting 15 points from freshman Chelsey Gipson in her debut during a 64-22 win over Taft. USC-bound Kristen Simon added 15 points.
Palisades defeated Santa Monica, 56-22. Bianca King had 13 points and Kylie Bethel 12. Troy defeated Marlborough, 56-46. Sophomores Barbara Sitanggan and Rebecca Lazuka had 15 and 14 points, respectively. Clarra Mokri led Marlborough with 23 points.
Chaminade held off Camarillo, 68-63. Devin Stanback, the sister of boys’ star Trevor Stanback, contributed 24 points. Geraldynn Leaupepe had 26 points for Camarillo.
Tuesday schedule: Valencia vs. Bishop Montgomery, 4 p.m.; Palos Verdes vs. Lynwood, 4 p.m.; Alemany vs. Riverside North, 7 p.m.; Garces vs. Westchester, 8:30 p.m.
