LA84 Foundation names Renata Simril its new president
Renata Simril, a former executive with the Dodgers, has been selected to succeed Anita DeFrantz as president and chief executive officer of the LA84 Foundation, which has been a key supporter of youth sports organizations in Southern California since being created in 1985 with surplus money from the 1984 Olympic Games.
DeFrantz has been president for 28 years. Simril, who was most recently a senior vice president and chief of staff at The Times, will take over on Jan. 6, 2016.
The LA84 Foundation’s original endowment of $93 million has grown to $163 million and funded more than $225 million in grants to more than 2,000 youth sports organizations.
