Soccer: L.A. Cathedral advances to tournament final
L.A. Cathedral knocked off the No. 1-ranked team in Southern Section Division 1, Servite, on Wednesday night with a 2-0 victory in Oceanside in a semifinal game of the SoCal Classic.
Edwin Vasquez and Max Valdivia scored goals for Cathedral off assists by Manny Garcia and Irving Arvizu. Derrick Garcia got the shutout in goal.
Cathedral has beaten D1 teams Loyola, St. John Bosco and Servite to reach the final. The Phantoms will face Los Alamitos, a 1-0 winner in overtime in the other semifinal.
