Track: Michael Norman wins 200 at World U20 Championships
Michael Norman barely lost out on a berth for the U.S. Olympic track and field team, but he has become a world champion.
The Vista Murrieta graduate headed to USC won the 200 meters at the IAAF World U20 Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland, on Friday, running away from the field in 20.17 seconds. It set a championship record for the event.
Wearing his signature white headband and a red USA jersey, Norman had a tremendous first half of the race. One commentator said his performance was “Bolt-like,” comparing him to sprinter Usain Bolt.
Norman is an 18-year-old expected to be one of America’s top track and field athletes in the coming years.
