Kings’ Tom Gilbert will face hearing Thursday for hit during Tuesday’s game
Kings defenseman Tom Gilbert will face a hearing Thursday “for boarding/charging Anaheim’s Nick Ritchie,” the NHL’s Player Safety Department announced via Twitter.
Gilbert hit Ritchie against the boards late in the second period of the Ducks-Kings game at Staples Center on Tuesday night, and Ritchie’s head appeared to strike the glass. Ritchie went through concussion protocol and is being evaluated, Ducks Coach Randy Carlyle said.
“They take the precautionary steps that are necessary, and it’s basically up to what the player tells the doctors here [in] the next 10, 12, 24 hours, whatever time it takes,” Carlyle said.
There was no penalty called on the play. Carlyle declined to comment on the incident. The Ducks recalled forwards Michael Sgarbossa and Ondrej Kase in advance of Wednesday’s game against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Goalie Jonathan Bernier is available, so Dustin Tokarski was reassigned.
