Red Sox’s Dustin Pedroia out with hand injury; X-rays are negative

Boston Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia missed Saturday’s game against Tampa Bay with a right hand injury suffered in his last at-bat a night earlier.

Boston Manager John Farrell said Pedroia went for X-rays earlier in the day, which were negative. He had an MRI exam before the game.

The club announced before the top of the second inning the MRI exam showed “no further or structural damage.”

Teixeira leaves game

Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira left Saturday’s game against Minnesota because of more inflammation in his surgically repaired right wrist, and is expected to miss two games.

New York Manager Joe Girardi said he noticed Teixeira wasn’t swinging well and pulled him in the sixth inning of a 3-1 win. Teixeira missed three games this week at St. Louis because of soreness in his wrist and returned to the lineup Friday night.

Rays catcher hurt in first career start

Tampa Bay catcher Ali Solis left the game after a ball bounced into his nose while he was batting in the third inning of Saturday’s game against the Red Sox in his first career start.

Solis had an 0-2 slider from Boston’s Rubby De La Rosa bounce off the ground, catcher A.J. Pierzynski’s glove and at his nose. After a few minutes of being checked out by a team trainer, he had to leave the game with a nasal contusion.
