J.T. Barrett back as Ohio State’s starting quarterback after one-game suspension

J.T. Barrett is once again the starting quarterback for Ohio State after returning from a one-game suspension.

Coach Urban Meyer announced Barrett as the starter Monday, two days after backup Cardale Jones led the Buckeyes to a 28-14 win against Minnesota.

Barrett was suspended by Meyer after the quarterback was cited for driving while impaired.

Meyer said Barrett will start unless he doesn’t have a good week of practice — his team’s normal policy.

Barrett was issued a misdemeanor ticket at a sobriety checkpoint Oct. 31 near the Ohio State campus. His court date is Tuesday morning.

The quarterback-in-waiting for Utah was lost for the season while playing safety Saturday. Coach Kyle Whittingham said that redshirt freshman Chase Hansen is done for the year after he injured his lower left leg during the final play of the 34-23 win over Washington. Hansen made his first start at safety against the Huskies and led the Utes with 11 tackles.

Idaho receiver Dezmon Epps was dismissed from the team, Coach Paul Petrino said, for violating conditions set forth in disciplinary actions that were taken earlier in the season. Petrino did not elaborate.

Epps was suspended from the team on Oct. 26 after being accused of hitting his girlfriend. The alleged incident occurred in nearby Pullman, Wash. Whitman County prosecutors declined to charge Epps in the case for lack of evidence.
