Jamie Donaldson holds three-stroke lead in Nedbank Challenge

Jamie Donaldson kept his three-shot lead through the third round of the Nedbank Golf Challenge at Sun City, South Africa.

The Welshman had six birdies and a bogey in a five-under 67 to stay ahead of American Ryan Moore and Denmark’s Thomas Bjorn. Donaldson had a 16-under 200 total.

Sweden’s Henrik Stenson was five strokes back along with Spain’s Sergio Garcia and Thailand’s Thongchai Jaidee.

Wales’ Stuart Manley moved into position for his first European Tour title, shooting a four-under 66 to take the third-round lead in the Hong Kong Open.

Manley had a 10-under 200 total in the event. Australia’s Wade Ormsby and India’s Shiv Kapur shot 66 to pull within a stroke.

Thailand’s Pornanong Phatlum rallied to win the Dubai Ladies Masters, hitting a 54-degree wedge to two feet on the par-five final hole for a birdie and a one-stroke victory over American Stacy Lewis.

The 24-year-old Phatlum closed with a six-under 66 to finish at 15-under 273 in the Ladies European Tour’s season-ending event.

Report: Selig denied A’s San Jose move

Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig formally informed the Oakland A’s in the summer that the team’s bid to move San Jose had been denied.

The San Jose Mercury News reported Saturday that a letter from Selig to the team surfaced in a federal court filing Friday night. MLB disclosed the letter’s existence as part of its legal argument to dismiss what remains of an antitrust lawsuit San Jose filed against the league over the A’s future stadium plans.

The court filing says Selig sent the letter to the club on June 17. The next day, San Jose sued, accusing MLB of antitrust violations.

The Palm Beach Post reported that Jimbo Fisher, coach of the top-rated Florida State Seminoles, has agreed to new contract with the school that will pay him about $4.1 million per year over five to seven years.

The Baltimore Ravens activated tight end Dennis Pitta on Saturday, one day before their game against the Minnesota Vikings.
