Pac-12: Utah survives scare at Colorado; Oregon routs Oregon State

Dominique Hatfield returned a fourth-quarter interception 20 yards for a touchdown and No. 25 Utah benefited from a pair of key replay reversals as the Utes beat Colorado, 38-34, Saturday, sending the Buffaloes to their season-ending eighth consecutive loss.

Travis Wilson threw for 311 yards and three touchdowns, helping Utah (8-4, 5-4 Pac-12) finish with a winning conference record and rebound from last week’s rout by Arizona. Devontae Booker had 25 carries for 95 yards, including a touchdown and a key 11-yard gain in the late going to help run out the clock.

Sefo Liufau completed 20 of 31 passes for 317 yards and a touchdown, but the game turned on his late interception. Colorado (2-10, 0-9) finished winless in league play for the first time since 1915 when the Buffaloes finished 0-5 in the Rocky Mountain Conference.

Trailing by eight, Utah pulled to 24-22 early in the third quarter on Booker’s one-yard touchdown run, capping a sequence in which replay review led to three reversals, including the scoring play.

No. 2 Oregon 47, at Oregon State 19: Marcus Mariota threw for 367 yards and four touchdowns and ran for 39 yards and two more scores to lead the Ducks over the Beavers in the 118th Civil War game.

Oregon (11-1, 8-1) will face Arizona in the Pac-12 championship game Friday at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

Freshman Royce Freeman ran for 135 yards and also caught one of Mariota’s touchdown passes. Fellow freshman Charles Nelson caught two passes — both touchdowns — for 56 yards, and Byron Marshall had six catches for 131 yards and a score.

It was Oregon’s seventh straight win overall and seventh in the series against the rival Beavers (5-7, 2-7), who lost six of their last seven games and failed to become bowl-eligible.

Brigham Young 42, at California 35: Christian Stewart threw for 433 yards and five touchdowns, and the Cougars kept California from becoming bowl-eligible.

Stewart tossed a 38-yard touchdown pass to a wide-open Jordan Leslie with 2:39 remaining for the go-ahead score, setting off chants of “B-Y-U! B-Y-U!” at half-filled Memorial Stadium. The Cougars (8-4) stopped record-setting Cal quarterback Jared Goff one more time to finish the season with four straight victories. Goff threw for 393 yards and four touchdowns, adding to his own school record for yards passing in a season and breaking Pat Barnes’ mark of 31 touchdown passes in 1996. But he threw incomplete on four straight passes to the end zone as the Bears (5-7) ended the season with three losses in a row.

Washington 31, at Washington State 13: Dwayne Washington rushed for 135 yards and touchdown runs of 51 and 60 yards, and Washington retained the Apple Cup with a 31-13 win over Washington State on Saturday night.

Washington continued his late-season touchdown binge and reached the 100-yard mark for the third straight game. Washington had touchdown runs of 68 yards against Oregon State and 66 yards against Arizona and closed the season with six touchdowns rushing in his final four games.

The Huskies (8-5, 4-5 Pac-12) now await their bowl destination. Chris Petersen capped his first season with his 100th career win and consecutive victories.

Washington State quarterback Luke Falk threw two interceptions and Vince Mayle had a costly fumble late in the second quarter. The Cougars (3-9, 2-7) were shut out in the first half for the first time in 26 games.
