Seahawks cornerback Brandon Browner to begin four-game suspension

Seattle cornerback Brandon Browner will begin serving his four-game suspension immediately and will sit out the remainder of the regular season without pay, the NFL announced Wednesday.

Browner will be eligible to return for the playoffs if the Seahawks make it that far.

Browner and fellow Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman were penalized for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs. Sherman is appealing his four-game suspension and will have his case heard next week, meaning he can play in Sunday’s game against Arizona.

The players reportedly tested positive for Adderall, a stimulant used for the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Some athletes use it in the belief it helps to sharpen their concentration.

Seahawks Coach Pete Carroll said he could not comment specifically on the Browner suspension, according to KJR radio, except that “I’ve been disappointed about the whole situation, but there’s nothing we can do about it.”

The Seahawks made two moves Wednesday to address their cornerback situation, signing Ron Parker from Carolina’s practice squad and promoting DeShawn Shead from their own practice squad.
