For Nick Diaz, another shot at a UFC title
Nick Diaz, reinstated to the Ultimate Fighting Championship main event Saturday in Las Vegas, will need to defeat hard-hitting Carlos Condit to attain the title he wants most of all.
Diaz blew a prior chance to fight UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre after missing a publicity tour to promote the bout. UFC President Dana White replaced Diaz with Condit.
Then, St-Pierre tore knee ligaments. He is expected to be sidelined until the early fall.
So Stockton’s Diaz was summoned back to face Albuquerque’s Condit for the UFC’s interim welterweight title in the bout at Mandalay Bay Events Center.
Diaz has a record of 26-7; Condit is 27-5.
The winner of the pay-per-view fight Saturday gets St-Pierre.
