Knicks’ Jason Kidd facing DWI charges after crashing his SUV

Jason Kidd’s arrival in New York appears to be getting off to a rough start.

The veteran point guard, who signed with the New York Knicks last week, was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving after police said he crashed his SUV into a telephone pole in the Hamptons early Sunday.

The 39-year-old was released from a hospital after being treated for minor injuries before being arraigned on intoxicated driving charges, according to Southampton Town police. He later was released without bail. Kidd’s next court appearance was not immediately available.

Police told the Associated Press that Kidd was alone when he crashed his 2010 Cadillac Escalade in Water Mill, N.Y. around 2 a.m. EDT Sunday.

This isn’t Kidd’s first run-in with the law. In 2001, Kidd was arrested on a domestic-violence charge while playing for the Phoenix Suns.

The Knicks signed the 10-time NBA All-Star last week in a deal that will pay him $3 million a year.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
