Dodgers’ season-ticket prices change slightly

The Dodgers’ opening-day payroll in 2013 could be double what it was last season, but the pricing structure for season tickets at Dodger Stadium doesn’t appear to be changing significantly.

Season-ticket prices for about 8,000 seats in the 56,000-seat ballpark will increase, but prices for more than 10,000 of them will go down. About 38,000 will remain the same.

The price changes that occurred were largely the result of the reclassification of seats, according to David Siegel, the senior director of ticket sales.

In some cases, reclassification will result in major price cuts. Most notable are the six sections that used to be part of the “infield box” area that are now part of the new “infield box value” area. Prices of a seat per game are down from $50 to $35.

Some of the most significant price increases will be in the top deck, where about half of the rows are being upgraded to “top deck front” status. The affected seats will increase in price from $5 per game last season to $8 in 2013.

But season-ticket holders who purchased top-deck seats at $5 per game last season will have the opportunity to do so again for next season. If those fans were in seats that were reclassified, they can purchase tickets further back in the section at the same price.

Season-ticket holders from last season will be invited to a Select-A-Seat event Oct. 25 and 26.

Potential new season-ticket holders can visit Dodger Stadium for an open house Oct. 27.

Front-office hire

Former Houston Astros general manager Gerry Hunsicker has joined the Dodgers’ baseball operations department as a senior advisor.

Hunsicker worked for the Tampa Bay Rays for the last seven seasons and was credited with increasing their overseas presence.
