Ducks closing in on franchise record of 11 straight home wins

The Ducks are two wins from matching their longest home winning streak of 11 games when the Calgary Flames visit Honda Center on Friday.

“It’ll be a challenge because they’re playing very good right now,” Ducks Coach Bruce Boudreau said of the Flames after a voluntary practice Thursday. “Emotionally, and confidence-wise, they’re at their highest level.

“When teams feel that way, they all want badly to win that first game on the road.”

As it opens a three-game trip, Calgary (9-8-4) has won four of its last six games — including a 4-1 victory over San Jose on Wednesday — and has scored four or more goals in the last five.

“They’re not going to have a bad game,” Boudreau said.

The Pacific Division-leading Ducks won 11 consecutive home games in the 2009-10 season. St. Louis visits Sunday.

“It’s because we’re a good team and we love the home cooking and support,” Boudreau said the morning after the Ducks (16-3-3) shut out Phoenix, 2-0. Goaltender Jonas Hiller stopped all 18 shots he faced to lower his goals-against average in the last four home games to 1.75.

Goalie platoon

Hiller was given his second consecutive start Wednesday despite giving up four goals plus more in a shootout loss at Phoenix Monday and the emergence of rookie goalie Viktor Fasth.

“It was how I wanted the rotation to go, as part of the next five to eight games,” Boudreau said. “I know who I have in ‘Hilly’ and I’m looking to put each of these guys in the best spots to win. Some of it is statistical. Some is a good feeling.”

Corey Perry scored the opening goal Wednesday and has 15 points in the last 10 games.

Injury front

Wing Kyle Palmieri skated at Thursday’s practice after suffering an upper-body injury on a hit in Phoenix on Saturday, but Boudreau said Palmieri is unlikely to play Friday.

Defenseman Bryan Allen (flu symptoms) could return after pushing himself through extra practice time.

Defenseman Cam Fowler hasn’t scored a goal this season. He sat out eight games after suffering a head injury in a Feb. 2 game against the Kings. He returned to play Feb. 24

“He’s a little tentative of jumping into a play, maybe because he missed those eight games,” Boudreau said. “Last night was his first time on left defense. He’s just focusing more on defense. He’s playing good. They’re not scoring goals on him.”
