Three-time Olympic champion Thomas Morgenstern, who suffered a horrific ski jumping crash last week, has been released from the hospital and could recover in time for the 2014 Sochi Olympics.

Morgenstern lost control during a training jump, turning sideways in midair and landing hard down the hill. He was diagnosed with skull and lung injuries.

Now he “is doing surprisingly well,” a doctor told the Austria Press Agency on Thursday. “He still has a memory gap but that’s nothing unusual.”

The Austrian athlete was moved to a rehabilitation clinic in Klagenfurt, Austria.

Friday’s crash was his second in a month. He previously suffered facial injuries and a broken finger in Germany.
