Shaun White healthy despite training fall
The photograph shows Shaun White with a sizable shiner under his right eye.
The American snowboarding star posted the snapshot on Instagram after wiping out during training this weekend in Colorado.
“Still in the fight for Sochi!” he wrote.
A black eye notwithstanding, White’s coach told the Associated Press that the athlete is “110 percent” healthy heading into the 2014 Sochi Olympics.
White skipped the X Games Aspen after qualifying for halfpipe and slopestyle during the recent U.S. team trials. He tweaked an ankle last month and chose to spend a few days training in Copper Mountain to prepare for the Games.
Slopestyle favorite Mark McMorris did compete at the X Games and fell hard, breaking a rib.
“That was certainly unfortunate, and we were sad to see that happen to Mark,” White’s coach, Bud Keene, was quoted as saying. “Obviously, it’s not the end of the world for him. That highlighted our decision in a good way.”
McMorris is expected to compete in Russia.
