Super Bowl: Seahawks’ Doug Baldwin plays with boulder on shoulder
Seattle Seahawks receiver Doug Baldwin plays with a chip on his shoulder.
“I usually call it a boulder,” he told reporters Sunday night upon the team’s arrival in New Jersey for the final week of Super Bowl preparations.
The 5-foot-10, 189-pound Baldwin completed his eligibility at Stanford in 2010 but was not selected in the 2011 NFL draft.
“I didn’t have a lot of good film coming out of college, also my height didn’t help me at all,” he said. “I ran a decent 40, but nobody would call it blazing speed. I think all those things attributed to it and to be honest with you I don’t really care right now.”
Why would he?
Baldwin has 50 receptions this season, five for touchdowns, and he will play in the Super Bowl against the Denver Broncos on Sunday at MetLife Stadium.
It’s a long way from not being drafted.
“There was a while there for a second that I questioned whether or not my career would continue with football,” he said, “but my agent told me that I would have a good shot to try and get into somebody’s camp and I told myself that if that was an opportunity, I was going to do anything and everything in my power to make the team and be an an impact player in the NFL.”
