Andrew Bynum says he’s going to ‘try’ to play Wednesday
Andrew Bynum sat in the Lakers’ locker room and watched helplessly as his team blew a 17-point lead against New Jersey.
In an interview with The Times, he called the Lakers’ nail-biting 91-87 win “tough to watch” and said he doesn’t intend to be sidelined for much longer.
Bynum watched the game on TV because of a moderately sprained left ankle, an injury which he sustained against Golden State on Sunday. He is listed by the Lakers as day-to-day.
When asked how his ankle feels, he said, “I feel good, but I don’t know. I’m going to try tomorrow.”
The Lakers play the Clippers on Wednesday in what Bynum said will be similar to a “playoff game.” It will be the third and final meeting between the teams in a series that is tied at 1-1. The Clippers haven’t won a series against the Lakers since the 1992-93 season.
Bynum answered questions as he walked to his car.
When asked about the condition of his ankle, Bynum said with a smile, “I’m doing OK. I’m keeping up, right?”
Bynum has more than just his ankle to worry about.
The Lakers fined their center an undisclosed amount for recent behavioral issues, including a missed meeting with General Manager Mitch Kupchak.
When asked for his thoughts on the fine, Bynum played coy.
“I’m unaware of that,” he said even though the media asked him for a response on the matter at a shoot-around earlier in the day.
Still?
“I’m still unaware,” he said with a smile.
Off the court, Bynum may be having some issues. But on it, he’s averaging career highs this season in points (17.9) and rebounds (8.8).
