Denver’s Andre Miller suspended for Sunday’s game vs. Lakers

As has been well reported, the Lakers are extremely short-handed at point guard.

On Sunday, the visiting Denver Nuggets have chosen to leave veteran point Andre Miller at home.

Miller was suspended two games by the team for conduct detrimental to the team, according to an announcement from Tim Connelly, Denver’s general manager/executive vice president of basketball operations.

According to the Denver Post, Miller confronted head coach, and former Laker, Brian Shaw for sitting Miller out of the Nuggets’ 114-102 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday.

“There’s a time and place for everything,” said Shaw, according to the Post. “In the middle of the arena in front of everyone ... I just tried to calm him down.”

The Lakers (13-19) have lost six straight games, but the Nuggets (14-17) are in an even deeper slump, losing eight in a row and nine of 10.

Miller is averaging 5.9 points and 3.3 assists while playing 19.0 minutes a game. In addition to starting point guard Ty Lawson, the Nuggets also have scorer Nate Robinson at the position.

The Lakers have injuries to Steve Nash (back), Steve Blake (elbow), Jordan Farmar (hamstring), Kobe Bryant (knee) and Xavier Henry (knee).

Before the Lakers play the Nuggets, they’ll host the Utah Jazz (10-24) on Friday. The Nuggets will host the Grizzlies (13-17) on Friday.
